At the NCSFA’s 131st Annual Meeting and Annual Banquet the Board of Directors and membership honored two special award recipients. Barry McLean (pictured in the center of the top photo) received the Firefighter of the Year award. Firefighter McLean is from Forbush Fire Department and was selected as this years recipient because he “…gives without expectations…” as described by his nominator, Dale Couch.
Also awarded this year was the Medal of Valor Award to John Worley (pictured in the center of the bottom photo) of New Hope Fire Department, Inc. Assistant Chief Worley rescued a fellow firefighter from a crawl space in a burning structure who was trapped by debris. His nominator, Jack Frye said, “Without Assistant Fire Chief John A. Worley’s gallant acts of extreme bravery, courage and self-sacrifice the outcome for Firefighter Young would have been much worse.”
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the membership of the North Carolina State Firefighters’ Association, congratulations to both Barry McLean and John Worley on being recipients of the 2018 NCSFA Awards, both are very much deserved.
