The City of Charlotte (800,000 pop.) is seeking a fire administrator who is an uncommon leader with a demonstrated track record of career accomplishments to serve as the next Fire Chief. This at-will position reports directly to the City Manager and oversees the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD) with 1,027 uniformed personnel and 127 non-sworn personnel. The CFD provides a full range of life safety services and operates 41 Engine Companies, 15 Ladder Companies, 2 Special Operations Heavy Rescue Companies, 4 Haz-mat Companies, 6 Aircraft Fire & Rescue Vehicles, 1 Dive Rescue Team, 1 Fire Boat, and 1 Dive Rescue Boat. This position requires significant and progressively responsible executive fire command experience in a large and complex fire department, emergency management department, or other public safety executive level position for a large metropolitan area. A Bachelor’s degree is required. National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Certification, the Chief Fire Officer Designation, Executive Development Institute, or similar certificates are highly desirable.
