Occupation: Chief of Training, Charlotte Fire Department

Kevin began his fire service career on May 25, 1984 as a member of the Waco Community Volunteer Fire Department in Cleveland County and was appointed Fire Chief July 01, 1991.

He has served in various positions with the Cleveland County Firefighter’s Association and serves on the Cleveland County Rural Fire Commission.

He is also a Certification Board member for the NC Fire and Rescue Commission and serves as the Chairman of the Fire Officer Committee to the Certification Board.

Chief Gordon is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Volunteer Fire Council, Volunteer & Combination Officers Section, Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs, National Fire Protection Association, and the North Carolina Association of Fire Chiefs.

He has also served as a Peer Reviewer for the Fire Act Grant Program over past several years.

Kevin became a member of the Charlotte Fire Department on February 27, 1991 and was promoted to Fire Captain on January 07, 1998.

He has served in special assignments as a Training Officer from 1999-2002 and as a Haz-Mat Captain from 2002-2005. He was promoted to Battalion Chief on January 01, 2005 and became the Chief of Training on January 06, 2007.

He also serves as an elected Trustee for the Charlotte Fire Fighter’s Retirement System.

Chief Gordon holds an Associate's degree in Fire Protection Technology from Central Piedmont Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science from the University of Maryland.

He has attended the United States Fire Administration's National Fire Academy numerous times and graduated from the Executive Fire Officer Program (EFOP) in 2005.

He has been designated as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence since 2006.

Kevin lives in Shelby with his wife Sherry and their two sons Alex and Zachary.
